Isolation

Depending on where you stand, the Calgary Tower is either hidden by taller buildings or can stand all alone. Its silhouette used to dominate the Calgary skyline.

Cave and Basin

The Cave and Basin in Banff National Park in Alberta, Canada is a peaceful spot on Sulphur Mountain. The National Parks in Canada were created to preserve this site. Natural hot pools were a draw for Native peoples in the past, and Canadians thereafter. They were discovered by men working on the railroad.

Let’s Celebrate the Kingdom

The day Canada became recognized as its own kingdom by Britain is July 1st, 1867. Originally called Dominion Day, July 1st is now celebrated as Canada Day. In Calgary, the day of celebration ends with fireworks set off from the Centre Street Bridge.

A Writer Communicates

The Classic Maya had a true written language that consisted of glyphs that were either syllabic or logographic.  A glyph could either be a syllable or an entire word or concept. These glyphs could be in sculptures, painted on walls or ceramics, or drawn in their own version of books: codices. A codex was made with bark paper and folded back and forth like an accordion.
